Shortly after sonorous singer, Timi Dakolo, released his hit song, Wish me well, Darey Art-Alade also released a melody, Pray for me and
this made many people to argue that both songs sounds similar. However, in an interview which Darey, insists that both songs are different and he did not copy Timi Dakolo.
“My song is not similar to Timi Dakolo’s Wish me well. I recorded my song in December, probably before he thought about recording his song but it is always about who released the song first. After recording the song in December, I recorded the life session in London in February. I recorded with Soweto Gospel Choir in March and released the song in July. There is no similarity apart from saying we are going to the city; that is all. So when you say similarities, I am shocked because they do not sound alike. Even if they sound alike, what is important is that there is a resurgence of soulful music. Timi is my brother. It is a good thing that people are more critical while listening to music though,” he said.
Often referred to as the king of R‘n’B music in Nigeria, the soulful singer said that he does not care what titles people confer on him as the only thing dear to his heart is his music.
He thanked his fans for their patience and announced that his album, Naked, is ready to be released.
“All these things are titles. It is just a title and you can have the title today and it is gone tomorrow, nobody is a champion forever. We are all in the game together. What is most important is the brotherhood we form. I don’t really care much about the title. If you call me king, it is fine and if you believe I am upcoming, it is okay. It is your opinion but for me, it is about the music,” he said.
