Driver arraigned for death of Lebanese

The police have arraigned a truck driver, Emmanuel Francis, for the death of a Lebanese, Anthony Chargoury, in Lagos.
Francis was arraigned before an Igbosere
Magistrates’ Court, Lagos Island.
It was learnt that 35-year-old Francis was the driver of a Mack truck with number plate, AAA 975 XM.
Francis was said to have hit 44-year-old Chargoury, who was said to be on a power bike. He reportedly died at a hospital.
The incident occurred on August 19, 2015.
Francis was subsequently arrested and arraigned on one count by men of the Victoria Island Police Division.
The charge read, “That you, Emmanuel Francis, on August 19, 2015, at about 9.30pm, on Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, in the Lagos Magisterial District, being the driver of one Mack truck with number plate, AAA 975 XM, did drive same on the public highway in a reckless manner… thereby caused the death of one Anthony Chargoury, 44, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 20 of the Lagos State Road Traffic Law, 2011.”
Francis pleaded not guilty.
The magistrate, Mrs. A. O. Soladoye, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000.
She adjourned the case till September 17, 2015.
